Mermaids for Inclusion

Finswimming as a tool for social inclusion in the Western Balkans.

Coordinated by Finswimming Team Komet (Zagreb, Croatia) with partners from Bosnia and Herzegovina (BRAVO), Kosovo (KSU Otrila) and Greece (Akadimos), the project introduced finswimming to swimming clubs in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo, with a focus on girls and women, people with disabilities and young people with fewer opportunities.

  • Mermaids Handbook and lesson plans for coaches, translated into the partner languages;
  • an open online training platform: mermaids-training.eu;
  • finswimming presentations and pool sessions in Kosovo (Pejë, January 2024; Prishtina, April 2024);
  • a final multiplier sport event in Sarajevo (17 November 2024): 68 athletes from 10 clubs from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Croatia and Australia, more than half of them women, including 6 swimmers with disabilities.

WIN – What Women Need

Sport against isolation and gender-based violence.

The pandemic left many women more isolated and more burdened at home. WIN brought them back to sport and to each other, working with sports clubs, social services and associations. Coordinated by ASI Pesaro Urbino (Italy), with La Macina Terre Alte (Italy), Iniciativa Internacional Joven (Spain) and Finswimming Team Novi Jelkovec (Croatia).

  • video interviews and podcasts with women's stories of resilience, in four languages with English subtitles;
  • the WIN app and a team-building residential camp;
  • European Week of Sport events: in Zagreb, women swimmers joined our #BeActive sessions at the pool;
  • final conference at the University of Málaga, September 2025.

Water Sports Festival (WSF)

Three clubs, three water sports, one festival: each partner learned a new sport from the others.

Finswimming Team Novi Jelkovec (Croatia) teamed up with Sharks Sports Club (Sweden, triathlon and swim-run) and Sirens ASC (Malta, water polo and artistic swimming) to open their clubs to new water sports and to share how to run sports events.

The project website: watersportsfestival.online.

  • 12 online lessons on sport event management and 12 sport-specific lessons: finswimming (Novi Jelkovec), triathlon (Sharks) and water polo (Sirens);
  • a multiplier sport event in Zagreb, 24–29 August 2024, with finswimming, water polo, open water swimming and swim-run, alongside the U-19 Women's European Water Polo Championship;
  • newsletters reaching more than 1,500 sports organisations, authorities and NGOs.

SPOT – Sportily Together

Integrated sport for a social future: sport clubs and social organisations learning from each other.

Four partners from Italy, Spain, Slovenia and Croatia – the social cooperative La Macina Terre Alte (coordinator), Universitario Bilbao Rugby, Akademija Rudi Hiti and Finswimming Team Komet – built local networks of clubs, schools, NGOs and public services around inclusive sport, and compared what works in each country.

  • local "observatories" bringing sport and social actors around one table in each partner city;
  • a collection of good practices and seminars on inclusive sport, from inclusive rugby in Bilbao to rowing and ice hockey in Bled;
  • European Week of Sport events in all four countries;
  • 441 participants, 54 of them people with disabilities.

Komet hosted the project meeting in Zagreb (February 2022), a seminar at Maksimir and a European Week of Sport event, and linked the project to its finswimming work in Tanzania with a joint Zagreb–Dar es Salaam seminar (October 2022).

Aurora Adriatic

An online school for the people who keep sports clubs running.

Coordinated by Finswimming Team Komet, with Rowing Club Adriatico and Record Team Bologna (Italy), Women's Football Club Tiverija (North Macedonia) and Football Club Breznica (Montenegro): clubs from both sides of the Adriatic, from EU founding members to candidate countries, sharing how they manage sport, dual careers and volunteering.

  • an e-learning platform with 12 modules in four subjects: internal administration, external relations, sport psychology and sport nutrition, plus fundraising;
  • recorded and subtitled lessons by partner staff and external experts, for coaches, athletes, teachers and volunteers;
  • a boot camp in Montenegro (24–27 September 2022) for the best participants, followed by traineeships at the partner clubs;
  • project meetings in Croatia, Bologna and Urbino.

Aurora – Sport. School. Life.

Where it all started: Komet's first Erasmus+ project, with Komet as coordinator.

Focused on dual careers and non-formal education, four European sport clubs worked together to train athletes and club members in what a club needs to grow and last: management, training and nutrition, and the principles of good governance in sport.

  • introductory workshops in each partner country;
  • e-learning as the core of the programme, built bottom-up and learning by doing;
  • a traineeship in a sport organisation;
  • a web platform with e-learning materials and practical tools for running a club.

Komet went on to coordinate Aurora Adriatic (2021–2022). The Aurora logo also inspired Komet's own.
